Humanists UK is the national charity that represents non-religious people and promotes secular humanism, reason, and human rights. With people identifying as having no religion making up more than half of the UK’s population, this is a key role within society. Whilst still a relatively small charity, Humanists UK punches well above its weight, helping to shape social policy and representing the views of the non-religious which are currently at risk of being undermined. Many people are unaware of the actual scale of what Humanists UK is and what it does, so we have put together a presentation which we hope will provide a fascinating insight into the surprising breadth and depth of its scope.
A recent, very successful addition has been the Local Groups initiative started in 2023, which is re-establishing local humanist groups where they’d previously lapsed, setting them up in new areas, or helping established independent groups that need support to join the program. Your local group, Oxford Humanists, was amongst the first ten that were re-launched back in late 2024 and will soon be celebrating our second birthday! There are now 23 Local Groups, with more in the pipeline!
The meeting will start with our presentation about the aims and setup of Humanists UK, followed by a section about our Local Oxford Humanists Group and what we hope to achieve. After that we’ll take a break for tea and coffee and then settle into a more informal discussion, to invite contributions from attendees for suggestions of events and activities, and hopefully offers of help to make things happen. As a volunteer organisation, we rely on the involvement of our members and look forward to engaging with you to help build a really exciting calendar of uplifting social, educational, and outreach events.

The event is free to attend, but donations are very welcome to help us cover running costs, venue hire etc. Donations can be made online when registering for the event or on the night.

More about the Venue: The North Oxford Community Centre Annexe will be open at 19:15 on the night. There is parking close by at Summertown Car Park or Ferry Car Park. The No.14 bus runs from Oxford Railway Station to Summertown roughly every 15 minutes. **SPECIAL NOTE: please check travel plans due to St Giles Fair which might affect bus services or traffic from the city centre.**
