At Humanists UK, we want people to live happy, ethical lives, and work to create a tolerant society where rational thinking and kindness prevail. We’re a small charity with just over 40 people on staff, but our impact is immense, thanks – in no small part – to the passion and dedication of over 1,000 humanist volunteers and professionals in our network.
Humanists are changing lives every day by leading humanist ceremonies, supporting people leaving high-control religious groups, organising local humanist meetups, promoting tolerance in their communities, humanism in education, and offering a listening ear to people going through life’s most difficult moments.
There’s a place for you – whether you’re looking to support people in need, meet like-minded people, or just get stuck in with something new and exciting. We hope you’ll consider joining our movement after having a peek at the opportunities below. We’d love to have you onboard!

Speak at schools
Train as a humanist school speaker and have a positive impact on young people’s lives by enhancing their understanding of humanism as a lived, non-religious approach to life.

Get humanism in RE
A balanced, objective approach to religion and belief education is essential. Humanists on their local RE committees can make sure this happens, and that humanism is in classrooms.

Promote tolerance and understanding
Through our dialogue network, we speak with people from religious communities to develop mutual understanding and promote tolerance. This is more important than ever.

Join your local humanist group
Connect with like-minded people, attend interesting events, support local humanist activism, and make new friends through Humanists UK Local Groups. You could also start a group!

Become a pastoral carer
Humanist pastoral carers help people in hospitals, hospices, prisons, universities, and the military, by offering a kind, listening ear during difficult times.

Stand up for the planet
Humanist Climate Action is a volunteer-led network campaigning for action on climate change and promoting low-carbon, ethical, and sustainable lifestyles.

Conduct humanist ceremonies
Become a highly trained and professional humanist celebrant, accredited to conduct non-religious weddings, funerals, and naming ceremonies.

Be part of Faith to Faithless
We support people who are making, or who have made, the decision to leave a high-control religious environment. Our volunteers sit at the heart of our work.
There’s even more volunteering opportunities!
From leading on social media to coordinating Pride events, you can see even more volunteering roles on our opportunities webpage. Whatever your skills, interests, or availability, there’s likely to be a role where you can make a meaningful contribution and help strengthen the humanist community.
