Maldon Humanists social and discussion “Is England still a Christian country?”

26 September 2026, 14:00 -- 16:00

Join us for our friendly social group.  We can discuss anything and everything from a humanist point of view, in a safe space, with hot drinks and biscuits to keep us going.  In July we enjoyed a country walk ending at a village with a church that interested some of the group.  For this meeting, we will include a discussion based on Philip Larkin's poem 'Church Going'.  Do some of the feelings he expresses match with your own, even as a humanist, or someone raised in a religous non-Christian family?  Alongside this, you might like to listen to Giles Fraser on Radio 4 considering the issue of whether England is still a Christian country (episode 2 in his recent series also called 'Church Going').

If you feel that it's not your thing to discuss something formally, don't worry, it's not obligatory that you join in, but all points of view are welcome, and we won't spend our whole session on this one topic.

Everyone is welcome. Please register to let us know you are coming.

This event is free, but we welcome donations, which help with the running of our group.
