Registration is closed for this event
20 March 2024, 19:00 -- 21:00

This significant event will kick off Humanists UK’s Assisted Dying Campaign in the region. It will be a chance to discuss, lean more about and support this important issue. After seven years of activism, the report from the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Assisted Dying, which suggests the next steps, is set to be published on the same day as this important event.

The event will feature panellists from across the islands that will address questions related to the practical outworking of Assisted Dying laws in other parts of the United Kingdom, criteria for availing Assisted Dying in Northern Ireland, and how to effectively advance the conversation around Assisted Dying in the region.

Your evening host is Gavin Walker, a member of the Bangor Humanist Local Group and an active campaigner in End of Life Ireland. He is also part of the Co-Ordinating Committee for the World Federation of Right to Die Societies International Conference, which is scheduled to be held in Dublin in September 2024.

Nathan Stilwell is a campaigner for assisted dying at Humanist UK and works for the organisation My Death, My Decision. He is also the secretariat of the Assisted Dying Coalition. He has presented to parliament in the Isle of Man and has been on Sky News, BBC News, and several radio stations to argue for compassionate law. Stilwell joined Humanist UK at the start of 2022 after two years at the Jo Cox Foundation and two years at a political communications agency in Brussels.

Bert Rima, a long-time campaigner for the legalisation of Assisted Dying in Northern Ireland, have also been involved in the movement.

Janie Lazar, the founder of End of Life Ireland, was driven to action by the direct impact of chronic pain and terminal illness on people and their families, which she often witnessed as a Humanist Funeral Celebrant.
