Warren Lakin

Warren Lakin was made a patron of Humanists UK for his exploration of the human condition through the arts.

Entertainment producer and writer

Warren Lakin is best known to humanists as the partner of the late Linda Smith, comedian and President of Humanists UK from 2004 to 2006. They met in 1983 when they were both working with Sheffield Popular Theatre and in 1993 they moved to east London. In 2006 he organised Linda’s humanist funeral, and compiled an account of her career, I Think the Nurses Are Stealing My Clothes (Hodder & Stoughton).

In the Guardian obituary of Linda Smith, Jeremy Hardy paid tribute to his contribution to her life and work: “… I think she absorbed a lot of Jewishness from Warren Lakin, her partner for 23 years… She never mastered the computer keyboard, and her beloved and devoted Warren would type everything up for her.”
