Dr Alfredo Carpineti
Astrophysicist, science journalist, and social activist
Dr Alfredo Carpineti (he/him) is a queer Italian astrophysicist, science journalist, and social activist. He has an M.Sc. in Quantum Fields and Fundamental Forces and a Ph.D. in Astrophysics from Imperial College London. He is the Senior Staff Writer & Space Correspondent for IFLScience, where he has worked for ten years, writing over 6,000 articles that have been read by millions.
He is the chair and founder of Pride in STEM, an award-nominated British charity dedicated to supporting and showcasing LGBTQ+ scientists and engineers. His first book, Invisible Rainbows, published by Wilton Square Books, is out in May 2026. He delivered a talk on the same topic at Humanists UK’s 2025 Convention.
