Humanists UK has launched its newest network to bring together humanists and non-religious people working in government. If you’re a civil servant currently working in the UK, a devolved government, or the London Assembly, or a political adviser or parliamentary staffer, you can sign up to be part of the network to receive regular updates and news.
Humanists in Government launched in Whitehall on 3 April to bring together like-minded civil service personnel and other professionals working across UK and devolved governments. Humanists UK’s Vice President, physicist, author, and broadcaster Professor Jim Al-Khalili, and Clare Moriarty, the Civil Service’s Faith and Belief Champion, welcomed the network and spoke at the launch.
The network will organise regular events and facilitate links between people working at the heart of policy-making and delivering bodies.
The launch event, hosted at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, heard from a panel of specialists including Director of the Diplomatic Academy and one of the founders of Humanists in Government, Jonathan Benjamin; Humanists UK Chief Executive Andrew Copson; and Humanist Champion at the Ministry of Defence and another founder of Humanists in Government, Roger Hutton.
If you’re a humanist working in government and would like to help develop and lead the network, contact Humanists UK Public Affairs Manager Karen Wright at kwright@humanists.uk.
Roger Hutton, one of the founders of Humanists in Government, said:
‘It is exciting that we have launched Humanists in Government. This is just the beginning – we’re planning more events in the months and years to come, and would be delighted to welcome more members to join and help lead this new and exciting network.’
