The BHA has today submitted a response to a Welsh Assembly Government consultation on the All Wales Community Cohesion Strategy. This strategy will form the basis of work by local authorities in Wales regarding community development and cohesion.
The BHA has become increasingly involved in community cohesion work since the start of the Local Development Project and welcomed the opportunity to comment on the Assembly’s plans.
Local Campaigns Officer Pepper Harow said, “More and more councils in Wales and England are undertaking work which is designed to lead to greater community cohesion. The BHA is concerned that a lot of this work in England is based almost completely on the need to involve ‘faith communities.’ We welcome the chance to highlight these issues to the Welsh Assembly Government.”
She continued, “We have been working closely with our local groups and volunteers to make sure that Humanists and other non-religious people can get involved in this important work without being discriminated against due to their non-religious beliefs.”
