Ask the House of Lords to support assisted dying

The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill is at risk of failing in the House of Lords.

Assisted dying is supported by the overwhelming majority of the public and the Assisted Dying Bill passed in the House of Commons by a majority in the summer.

However, some members of the House of Lords (peers) are currently trying to filibuster (talk out) the Bill, by proposing an excessive number of changes and debating so slowly that it runs out of time.

After all the work we have done, we cannot let that happen!

Do that now by clicking the buttons below ✅️

We have provided a template to help you write to peers and ask them to attend and support. As peers don’t have constituencies, we’ve assigned you three random peers to contact.

We wholeheartedly support Kim Leadbeater MP’s Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, which will ‘allow adults who are terminally ill, subject to safeguards and protections, to request and be provided with assistance to end their own life’. But members of the House of Lords are trying to derail it. Write to them to support this today.

Personalise your impact

While we have provided a template, we strongly encourage you to personalise your email. Heartfelt stories and personal experiences will show peers why assisted dying matters to you specifically.

Click here to see how to personalise your email
  • If you or your loved one is terminally ill and would want an assisted death, please talk about this.
  • If you have lost someone who could have benefited from a compassionate assisted dying law, please share their story.
  • If you are a medical professional, please explain how this influences your views.

Keep us informed of your actions and any responses from peers at campaigns@humanists.uk. Your engagement is instrumental in our collective journey towards enacting compassionate change in the law.
