Help us urge MPs to mount a humanitarian response for Afghans
We’re pressing the UK Government to take urgent humanitarian action in response to the Afghanistan crisis, in line with coordinated efforts by humanist groups around the world. If you’re based in the UK, you can help these efforts by writing to your MP today.
We have four crucial requests that fall upon the UK Home Office and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office. Will you help us put pressure on ministers by asking your MP to represent your concerns to the Government?
We are asking for the UK Government to take unilateral and multilateral action to support Afghans, and in particular to:
- Increase UK Government funding and aid for NGO programmes and human rights defenders operating both inside and outside of Afghanistan, and in particular groups promoting human rights, education, reproductive rights, and equal treatment before the law for women, girls, LGBT people, and religious and non-religious minorities
- Use all available diplomatic channels and practical means to support the safe passage and evacuation for all those fleeing Afghanistan on humanitarian grounds
- Guarantee that non-religious people in Afghanistan – Afghanistan’s most harshly persecuted religion or belief minority – will be afforded equal priority to religious groups in treatment of Afghanistan asylum claims
- Ensure accountability and sanctions for actors and governments that directly or indirectly support the Taliban through funding, training, or the provision of arms
