Brighton Pavilion MP and former Leader of the Green Party of England and Wales Siân Berry was appointed Honorary President of Green Humanists at a fringe event hosted by Humanists UK and the Green Humanists in Manchester in September.

The event came at the start of Humanists UK’s ongoing tour of the UK’s major political party conferences, which continued with the Liberal Democrat, Labour, and Conservative Conferences.

Across the conference, Humanists UK’s representatives spoke to all the Green MPs and peers present, along with peers, councillors, and hundreds of Green Party members. There was deep support across the board from senior party officials as well as rank and file members for key Humanists UK campaigns such as assisted dying, humanist marriages, and education reform.

Speakers at the Green Party fringe event included Humanists UK Chief Executive Andrew Copson, who commented on the more favourable Parliament for passing legislation in line with Humanists UK campaign aims, with 40% of MPs taking a secular affirmation, including the entire Green parliamentary party.

Siân Berry has been a patron of Humanists UK for a number of years. Earlier this year, after becoming an MP, she was elected Vice-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Humanist Group

Humanists UK attends all the major party conferences to meet with parliamentarians, advocate for humanist issues, and engage with its party-political members and supporters. We will also be attending the Liberal Democrat, Labour and Conservative Conferences.
