The British Humanist Association (BHA) has expressed its sorrow at the death of Ian Breach following a long fight with cancer.
Ian enjoyed a long and distinguished career in television and print media, in 1989 being appointed the BBC’s first environment correspondent. For the past 13 years Ian worked as a Humanist Celebrant.
Ian’s career change into ceremonies occurred when his first wife, Jacky died suddenly in 1999 having requested a humanist funeral, which Ian helped plan. It was after this experience that Ian trained to be a Celebrant. During his 13 years in this area he conducted more than 1,000 ceremonies. Ian took a final humanist funeral in December 2012 for a young Carlisle mother who had died of cancer. He was himself dying of lung cancer.
Ian was a great asset to Humanist Ceremonies and will be sorely missed.
