The British Humanist Association (BHA) has briefed MPs as they debate topics raised in the Queen’s Speech. The Queen’s Speech sets out the Government’s agenda for the coming year.
Naomi Phillips, BHA Head of Public Affairs, said, ‘There is much of interest from the BHA’s point of view in the Government’s agenda, but what exactly it will mean for humanists is yet to be seen. Will actions to create the “Big Society” include non-religious people as well as religious? Will “free schools” be inclusive of all regardless of religion or belief? Are we finally going to see a House of Lords with no reserved seats for Bishops? We hope that these kinds of questions will be taken up by humanist MPs as they get involved in these important debates.’
