The BHA has today released their Manifestos for the Local and European Elections on 4th June 2009. The two separate documents cover issues such as how local councils can improve their work to include non-religious people and how the European elections are important in the fight for freedom of ‘religion or belief.’
The local Manifesto has examples of questions that people can ask their local candidates and the European Manifesto has details of how to send a letter to candidates to bring various issues to their attention.
Pepper Harow, Local Campaigns Officer, commented, “Both the local and European elections give people an opportunity to talk about important matters with the candidates. Whether this is discussing their views on ‘faith schools’ or talking about how the European community can promote human rights, this all helps to raise the Humanist profile and give a voice to non-religious people within times of democratic change.”
