BHA Welcomes New Report on Citizenship Education

The British Humanist Association (BHA) today welcomed the House of Commons Education and Skills Committee’s report on Citizenship Education. The report recommends greater investment and promotion of citizenship education in schools and makes specific recommendations to faith schools to take a more explicit approach to the subject.

Andrew Copson, BHA Education Officer commented, ‘Today’s report asking for more consistency in implementation and quality of citizenship education, particularly in faith schools, is a positive step towards promoting a broader understanding of an increasingly diverse society. We have long recommended teaching about issues of religion and belief in subjects other than simply religious education (RE) and today’s report supports that recommendation’.
