The NHS: a service 99% of us depend on | Exeter Humanists

07 January 2026, 19:00 -- 20:30

Mark E. Thomas, Founder of the 99% Organisation, will explain why the Government’s 10-year Plan and the Budget between them will determine the future prospects of the NHS – and why that is of grave concern to UK citizens.

The 99% Organisation is an inclusive volunteer movement of people who want to end mass impoverishment using peaceful means. It raises awareness among the public and policy-makers through high-quality analysis of Britain's key problems. It has three key projects aimed at protecting the social contract in the UK: Defensive Constitutional Reform – to prevent what is happening today in the US from happening in 2029 in the UK; Economics of National Renewal – to push for fact-based economic policies to benefit the 99%, not just the 0.01%; and Restoring the NHS – to argue for investing to make the NHS what it was until relatively recently, the best system in the world’s leading economies.

Mark will reprise the arguments the project team made in Parliament to a cross-party group of MPs and Peers about how the last Labour government succeeded in turning around the NHS and making it world-class and why the combination of the 10-year Plan and the Budget make it so unlikely – unless they are changed – that such a renewal will happen again.
