The impact of Humanist Schools in Uganda | North Staffs Humanists

Steve Hurd will share the remarkable story behind a growing network of Humanist schools in Uganda—schools that serve some of the country’s most underserved communities while championing reason, compassion, and tolerance. These schools offer a distinctive approach to education: one that respects freedom of thought, encourages rational enquiry, and fosters social responsibility.
Over the past 15 years, Uganda Humanist Schools Trust has helped establish and support multiple primary and secondary schools across Uganda, providing life changing education to empower children to think critically and act ethically. As Uganda rolls out a new national curriculum, Humanist schools are rising to the challenge; nurturing open-minded, evidence-based education that values both religious and secular worldviews.
Together, we'll learn:
- How humanist principles are shaping education in Uganda.
- The challenges and triumphs of building inclusive schools in rural African communities.
- How global solidarity and grassroots action can support educational change.
There will be time for questions and open discussion following the talk, whether you'd like to share your thoughts or simply listen and reflect.
