Robin Ince's "The Importance of Being Interested" | Leicester Humanists Book Club
Join us for our monthly book club! This month we are reading Robin Ince - The Importance of Being Interested: Adventures in Scientific Curiosity. Robin Ince is an English comedian, actor, and writer, as well as a Humanists UK patron!
Having been put off science at school, Robin found his interest rekindled in later life. Interviewing neuroscientists, astronauts, writers, and comedians, he conveys the excitement and wonder of the subject. He describes himself as often being “the stupidest person in the room... not always good for the ego but very good for my education".
Curiosity and doubt are integral to the humanist way of being in the world. What did you think of the book? Did it motivate you to further explore any scientific principles as a layperson? What are his thoughts on curiosity, doubt, and the ability to hold many seemingly contradictory ideas in our heads at once? And how can we apply the wonder of science into our daily lives?
Join us for a friendly chat over a coffee or a beer as we share our thoughts!
