York Humanists warmly invite you to an enjoyable evening dedicated to the power of words, ideas, and shared creativity. Our Poetry & Prose Evening is the perfect opportunity to unwind on a winter night, settle in with a drink, and let yourself be carried by stories, reflections, and moments of humour and insight.

Throughout the evening, members of the group will present a varied selection of poetry and short prose — some moving, some witty, some challenging, and all chosen simply because they’re worth hearing. Expect a mix of classic and contemporary writing, humanist-themed pieces, and a few surprises along the way. You are welcome to bring along a piece of writing that means something to you, alternatively just come to listen, enjoy, and chat.

Micklegate Social provides a cosy, welcoming space that’s ideal for good conversation and thoughtful discussion. Whether you’re a regular at our events or completely new to York Humanists, you’ll find a friendly crowd and plenty of opportunities to mingle, share ideas, and connect with like-minded people.

👉 Entry is free and open to all.
