In conversation with Catherine Nixey

Catherine Nixey is the author of The Darkening Age, a book about how early Christians destroyed temples, smashed statues, banned free discussion of religion and burnt books in order to ensure that everyone in the Roman Empire complied with their aggressive new religion. The Darkening Age won a Royal Society of Literature Jerwood Award for Non-Fiction.

Her interest in religion was piqued by her family background: her mother had been a nun, her father a monk. She read classics at Cambridge and now works at the Times as radio critic and commissioning editor on the arts desk. She has written for many publications including the FT and the Economist.
