How the Amsterdam Declaration shapes modern humanism | Bangor Humanists
The Amsterdam Declaration sets out the core values of humanism as we know them today, but the word has its origins in the Italian Renaissance. The presentation will look at how the word 'humanism' has changed and evolved since the 15th century through the Age of Enlightenment to the modern day. It will look at some of the people who promoted science and reason over superstition as well as the earlier Freethinkers who inspired them.
The presentation ends with a look at the Amsterdam Declaration itself and how modern humanism has grown from its values.
