Organised to coincide with Second Reading of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill in the House of Lords, this rally will show the Lords speaking at that debate that the people want a compassionate choice at the end of their lives.

Dying people should have the right to choose a compassionate and dignified death. We need politicians to understand that they cannot ignore this issue – and we need to show that the majority of people are crying out for a change in the law. When you join us for this rally, you lend your voice to a cause that impacts thousands of people and their families. Together, we can change the law.

What is Second Reading?

Second Reading is where members of the House of Lords will debate and then vote on the Bill as a whole. Lords who oppose assisted dying may try to wreck the Bill and throw it out. So we need people to be present and to show them that the public wants the law to change.

What to expect

We will be providing banners, placards, and posters. We will be joined by supporters of Dignity in Dying and My Death, My Decision. There will be photography and filming throughout the rally – we need you to be loud and present.

What to bring

People: We need numbers! Politicians can’t ignore that the public overwhelmingly supports assisted dying. Please, ask friends, family, and loved ones to come with you.

Banners: We will be providing the banners, but feel free to bring your own too.

Why is Humanists UK supporting the Bill?

For nearly 100 years we have supported the right of adults who are dying and suffering to have a compassionate death. This Bill is limited to just terminal people with six months or fewer to live, and if it passes, it will be a big step forward towards dignity and choice.
