Apostasy in the UK | Sheffield Humanists
Our expert speaker will introduce us to the stories of real apostates, their experiences of rejection and loss of support, and their work to support others on the same journey.
Join us for this unique opportunity to learn about the apostasy in the the UK, and how leaving high controlling religious groups, can lead to personal distress due to rejection from, and even loss of contact with, friends, family and community.
Our Speaker
Dr George Askwith has a PhD in early Christianity, and has also researched the experiences of those from high control religions. She will be talking about her own experience growing up as a Jehovah's Witness, in conversation with others who have also left their faith, and the work of Faith to Faithless, a section of Humanists UK supporting people who are leaving high control religions, and was a speaker at their first ‘Apostasy Conference’ in 2021.
