Humanist Climate Action joined forces with Eco-Humanists, from Humanist Society Scotland, at demonstrations as part of the Global Day of Action for Climate Justice around the COP26 summit. Humanists marched alongside representatives from other religion or belief groups in Glasgow and London.
Humanist Climate Action called on delegates to COP26 to make a firm and meaningful commitment to reduce carbon emissions to net zero as soon as possible and to reduce global temperature rises to a maximum of 1.5 degrees.
Humanist Climate Action is a new volunteer-led network of Humanists UK members and supporters committed to redefining lifestyles and campaigning for policies that promote low-carbon, ethical, and sustainable living in the light of the degeneration of the Earth’s climate and biodiversity. It brings humanists together to facilitate individual and collective action on these issues.
Humanist Climate Action Coordinator Lori Marriott commented,
‘We are delighted that so many Humanist Climate Action supporters joined us on the streets of both Glasgow and London to call for meaningful action on one of the most significant problems of our age. And we were pleased to join friends from our sister organisation Humanist Society Scotland.
‘Central to humanism is trust in the scientific method and empirical evidence to understand the world around us. The scientific evidence that we are facing widespread environmental degradation is overwhelming. As humanists we should look towards both Government policy and our own lifestyles to reduce these harms.’

Humanist Climate Action is a volunteer-led network of Humanists UK members and supporters committed to redefining lifestyles and campaigning for policies that promote low-carbon, ethical, and sustainable living in the light of the degeneration of the Earth’s climate and biodiversity. We bring humanists together to facilitate individual and collective action on these issues. Humanists are guided by reason and science and recognise a moral duty towards the welfare of our fellow beings and the natural world. Humanists seek to engage in dialogue and debate rationally, intelligently, and with evidence, and promote the belief that humans are part of a wider natural world which must be treated sustainably for the sake of current and future generations.
Humanists UK is the national charity working on behalf of non-religious people. Powered by 100,000 members and supporters, we advance free thinking and promote humanism to create a tolerant society where rational thinking and kindness prevail. We provide ceremonies, pastoral care, education, and support services benefitting over a million people every year and our campaigns advance humanist thinking on ethical issues, human rights, and equal treatment for all.
In 2021, Humanists UK is celebrating its 125th anniversary with a renewed focus on its history. The new website Humanist Heritage is a rich new web resource that uncovers the untold story of humanism in the UK – a story of people, groups, objects, places, movements, publications, and ideas.
