Chocolate tasting experience | Haywards Heath Humanists

18 November 2026, 19:00 -- 20:30

Join us for some humanist conversation and an immersive, multi-sensory journey across the globe as we explore the world of fine craft chocolate!

Our committee member David Sexton will teach us how the cacao beans reflect the terroir, climate, and soil of where they are grown—much like fine wine or specialty coffee. We’ll cover the 5-step tasting technique, explore the fascinating science of cacao fermentation, and discuss ethical craft bean-to-bar sourcing.

David will guide us through a tasting of premium single-origin chocolates from distinct regions, including:
  • Madagascar: Bright, fruity, and citrusy berry notes
  • Thailand: Delicate, floral, and subtly tropical profiles
  • India: Deep, warm spice and rich nuttiness
  • El Salvador: Smooth, caramel, and dark wood undertones
  • …plus several other hand-picked origins!
This will be a social event as we continue to get used to our new venue and prepare for a return to hosting expert speakers. The event is free to attend. But if you are able, we ask you to consider a £10 or more donation to help us put on future events.

Whether you’re a lifelong chocoholic or just curious about flavor complexity, come share a table, clear your palate, and join the conversation.
