Join us to hear the obstacles and difficulties LGBT apostates face, especially when so many have been forced or coerced into attempting so-called ‘conversion therapy’, which was intended to ‘cure’ people of their homosexuality.

We now know the truth about this practice, and we’ve got a panel of experts ready to talk to us about how best we can support apostate members of our LGBT community throughout their journey of leaving religion behind.

Jayne OzanneJayne Ozanne is a prominent gay evangelical who works to ensure full inclusion of all LGBT people with religious beliefs,  both within their religious communities and in wider society. She is Director of the Ozanne Foundation, which works with religious organisations to eliminate discrimination based on sexuality or gender.  In December 2020 she launched the Global Interfaith Commission on LGBT+ Lives, which brings together senior religious leaders from around the world who wish to embrace and celebrate the equality and diversity of all. A survivor of ‘conversion therapy’, Jayne set up and chairs the Ban Conversion Therapy Coalition in order to campaign for a fully comprehensive ban on so-called ‘conversion therapy’. More recently Jayne has convened the “Ban Conversion Therapy Legal Forum”, drawing together a group of senior international lawyers to help advise government how to effectively ban these abhorrent practices.PhillipaWillitspromo.jpg

Philippa Willitts is a freelance writer, editor and proofreader who frequently writes about women and disabled and LGBT people, recently writing an article on conversion therapy for the Yorkshire publication, Now Then! She is also the editor of the international online publication, Global Comment.

Rachel Taggart-Ryan is Campaigns Officer at Humanists UK, RachelTaggartRyanpromo.jpegand her work covers a wide range of issues in Public Affairs and Policy including defending LGBT rights. She has campaigned in favour of reform of the Gender Recognition Act and sits on the Ban Conversion Therapy Coalition, which focuses on working with religion or belief groups, and the Coalition against Conversion Therapy, which focused on medical practitioners.

We’ll be getting the latest news from Humanists UK about the UK Government’s current position on ‘conversion therapy’, and Jayne and Philippa will be telling us why this abhorrent practice which is stil practiced in the UK needs to be banished to the history of the LGBT+ movement in the UK.
