At a time when NHS funding is under extreme pressure, not a single penny should be spent on fake medicine, psychic woo woo, or ‘magical’ quackery.

In 2017, NHS England stopped funding homeopathy because there was zero evidence it worked better than a placebo – it’s just expensive sugar pills. This decision was upheld by a High Court judgment in 2018. Yet other ‘alternative treatments’ continue to be offered using taxpayer money.
Shockingly, many NHS trusts continue to advertise jobs for ‘reiki practitioners’ – people who claim they can cure real diseases by waving their hands to manipulate invisible psychic energy.
This is a waste of resources. Every pound spent on ineffective holistic therapies is a pound that could be used for real, evidence-based treatments that actually help patients.
The NHS should prioritise science-based medicine, not alternative therapies that have been thoroughly debunked. At a time when people are having to wait months or years for urgent conditions, they have a duty to make sure every penny goes towards treatments that actually work.
We are a community standing up for a UK where healthcare is based on science and evidence. Together, we’re calling for the NHS to stop all funding for fake potions and make-believe psychic treatments.
