Free speech is a fundamental right. The ability to tell jokes, discuss ideas, and criticise religions is a core part of a democratic society.
Yet in the UK, we are seeing an increasing number of heavy-handed police responses to so-called ‘offences’.
We must defend free speech – at home and abroad.
Freedom of expression means:
✅ The right to joke, debate, and critique without fear of violence or legal punishment.
✅ An end to disproportionate police involvement over cases of ‘offensive’ speech.
✅ A government that actively promotes free speech internationally in its foreign policy.
The UK claims to support freedom of expression, yet we see people investigated, fined, or arrested for harmless speech that simply offends some people, particularly when people criticise or poke fun at religion. We must not allow this slide into censorship.
We are a community standing up for a UK that defends free speech as a core democratic value. Together, we’re calling for the government to protect and champion freedom of expression.
