Elizabeth Wilson

Elizabeth Wilson was made a patron of Humanists UK for her contribution to advancing human rights, equality, and justice.

Elizabeth Wilson was a psychiatric social worker and later, an activist in the women’s liberation and gay liberation movements. Beginning in the mid-70s, she wrote a number of polemical/academic works about women, and then shifted into an interest in fashion and dress. She was an academic lecturer and then professor at London Metropolitan University, Stanford University USA and University of the Arts, London. She also taught at Goldsmiths university. Her published works include books on fashion, tennis, urban culture, and subcultures. She has also published several period crime novels.
