The Welsh Government is currently holding a public consultation on the new curriculum for Wales.
We broadly welcome the changes to the curriculum, which will see Wales leading the way in education on non-religious beliefs, inclusion of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and compulsory relationships and sexuality education from 3 to 16. There are some areas that require more detail, such as clear guidance on the teaching of LGBT-inclusive relationships and sexuality education, earlier education on evolution, and a definite exclusion of creationism from the curriculum.
Please, will you respond to the draft Curriculum for Wales consultation using our form below? We have provided some model answers, but strongly suggest you adapt them using your own words – policymakers tend to take more notice of individual responses than ones they think come from campaign groups. We need submissions by Friday 19 July if we’re to guarantee every child in Wales receives a 21st century education.
Didn’t I respond to a previous consultation about this?
In the last couple of months, you may have responded to another similar consultation that the Welsh Government ran on changes to the legal framework around education. We broadly welcomed those changes, which are proposed to happen in the next three years, but there is a need for detailed curriculum guidance to support them. This consultation relates to the content of the curriculum and is vitally important to the future of education in Wales.
