Rituals, Rites and Meaning Making, and how we can add to this as Humanists

What can we, the non-religious, proactively offer that will contribute towards the richness and diversity of chaplaincy and pastoral care in our own institutions?

Are you frustrated, challenged or struggling with what is asked of you regarding providing a non-religious version of religious service provision?

We will use this time exploring how we can actively engage in looking at how some ceremonies, ritual, observed practices, symbolism and meaning making that add to and enrich a space traditionally held by religious observation and direction.

We will discuss how we can contribute to the future planning of an institution’s annual celebrations, the marking of its key events, as well as individual's needs, to highlight meaning and purpose in a challenging space.

We will look at adapting existing ceremonies and rituals we have seen or delivered and what is important to us as individuals when looking at marking our own events in our lives.

The aim of this CPD session is to inform and shape our own expectations and confidence building that will empower our practice as a pastoral carer and contributor to our wider team.

This session is led by Kerry Tomblin, a very experienced NRPSN practitioner, trainer, and active contributor to the network’s governance. She is also a long-standing Humanist Celebrant (since 2009) and a non-religious chaplain in children’s wards at Leicester Hospitals, bringing extensive experience in ceremony, pastoral care, and supporting individuals and families.

This CPD session is exclusively available to NRPSN practitioners.
