Humanism of the Heart: A Humanist Chaplain’s Guide to Rituals and Celebrations | Informal online meeting hosted by Cornwall Humanists
One of the main attractions of religion is how it structures time and experience: religions can be seen as cultural mechanisms for promoting group solidarity and marking important moments in our lives. But how can Humanists build shared experiences which express our non-religious values? Humanist Chaplain, Dr James Croft reveals how you can use ritual, symbolism, and aesthetics to promote Humanist values over the holiday season.
Dr. James Croft is the University Chaplain and Lead Faith Advisor for the University of Sussex, and the first Humanist to lead the chaplaincy of a UK university. Formerly, as Senior Leader of the Ethical Society of St. Louis, he led one of the largest humanist congregations in the world. James has dedicated his life to helping people ask the big questions – Why are we here? How should we treat each other? Where are we going? – and is a popular speaker on matters of religion, ethics, and philosophy in the UK and internationally. He lives in Brighton with his fabulous drag queen husband Kolten and their darling chihuahua Ella.
