Close up of one of the Liver birds against a lightly clouded blue sky. The Happy Human logo and 'Liverpool Humanists' in white on the left of the image.Yvonne Letson will be talking about her personal and professional experiences of recovering from high-control religions. She will discuss the needs of people who have experienced religious trauma, and how they can overcome and recover from their experiences.

Yvonne is a qualified counsellor and has worked as a therapist in private practice for seven years. She is an approved counsellor for The Secular Therapy Project and specialises in working with clients recovering from spiritual abuse/religious trauma. Yvonne grew up in Northern Ireland where she was brought up in an evangelical Pentecostal church. She left the religion in her early thirties having experienced spiritual abuse, and an abusive marriage that she was coerced to stay in for 11 years. She has since worked with apostates from high-control groups across a wide range of religions and delivers workshops and talks on the topic. Yvonne is also currently working on a PhD researching the embodied experiences of those with religious trauma.

This is a free public event, but we will ask for a donation of £5-10 to cover room and equipment hire.

Please note, the event has a 19:00 gathering time before a 19:30 start to proceedings.
