Campaigners from across many organisations, including Humanist Climate Action, came together under the banner of The Climate Coalition on Wednesday to join a mass lobby in Westminster. An example of democracy in action, the mass lobby was a chance for individuals to meet with their MP as well as celebrate the inspirational environmental community that continues to campaign on these important issues.
The day included meetings with MPs, nature walks, speaker sessions and many interesting conversations. MPs were called on to take practical action to:
- Deliver vital funding to communities hit hardest by climate change here and around the world
- Cut bills, back UK jobs, and secure a greener fairer future for all
- Restore nature to create a safer, healthier future
Lori Marriott, Humanist Climate Action Coordinator, reflected on the day:
‘It was fantastic to see so many people from different organisations coming together for our shared future. The mass lobby was a chance to directly tell MPs what thousands of us care about – nature, our climate, our health and our communities. We hope MPs listened and can hold the government to account on meeting current targets as well as pushing for an ambitious, fair and fully funded new carbon budget delivery plan.’
