Raise your voice: the power of protest and campaigning | Exeter Humanists

Many of us, whether we call ourselves humanists or not, feel a deep desire to change the world—to challenge injustice, fight for a fairer society, and make our voices heard. But how do we turn that desire into action?
Humanists believe that human beings alone are responsible for improving the world. Whether you are a humanist or not, everyone is welcome to attend this event, to learn, reflect, and discuss how we can make a difference.
Karen Wright, Public Affairs Manager for Humanists UK, will be discussing the strategy behind, and what goes into, successful campaigns.
Lucy MacKeith, former humanist celebrant, has protested for women's liberation and teachers unions, amongst many other causes. She says she can't tell others to protest, but she can explain why she protests. Come and listen.
Pete the Poet will be providing us with some protest poetry.
Hopefully after listening to these speakers you will be more strategic and effective in deciding what to campaign for, more knowledgeable about what protest may involve, and more motivated to stand up and make a difference.
