Radical transformation and the climate crisis, Q&A with Professor John Barry | Bangor Humanists

Sorry Registration for this event begins on December 27th, 2024 20:00
07 January 2025, 19:00 -- 21:00

By popular demand, Professor Barry is returning to answer your questions following his thought-provoking presentation on the economic causes of the planetary emergency.

Professor Barry last spoke to Bangor Humanists in October 2024, and his presentation on the need for radical transformation to protect the planet's life-supporting systems, provoked a lot of discussion. He’s back to answer questions and continue the discussion on what steps need to be taken, for ecological survival and a more sustainable and just future.

Humanists have a long history of climate and environmental activism. As our international movement recognised in the 2019 Reykjavik Declaration, “Human beings are part of the natural world, but have a disproportionate effect on the global environment and biodiversity. Throughout history, our species has used the natural world to increase individual and collective wellbeing, and the impact we have is no longer sustainable.

John Barry is Professor of Green Political Economy and Co-Director of the Centre for Sustainability, Equality and Climate Action at Queens University Belfast. He is also Co-Chair of the Belfast Climate Commission. He was a driving force behind an all-Ireland Green Party and previous joint leader of the party in Northern Ireland.

Please join us for an enlightening session that promises to stimulate thought and inspire action.
