Humanists are non-religious people who shape their own lives in the here and now, because they believe it’s the only life they have.
People who call themselves humanists are varied in their opinions, convictions, motivations, and goals. But they are united by the values they have in common: like making decisions on the basis of rational thinking and simple kindness.
#HumanistBecause invites humanists to share and celebrate the values and convictions that underpin their approach to life.

I’m a #HumanistBecause I see the world as a natural place, with no supernatural side, and believe that we can live ethical and fulfilling lives by using logic, reason, and evidence to guide us in one life we know we have.
I’m a #HumanistBecause I see no evidence for god/s or an afterlife. I can do good for its own merit, in the here and now, without expectation of reward after I die, guided by compassion, empathy, and a sense of responsibility to help others.
I’m a #HumanistBecause defending our human rights has never been more important, and I support an inclusive and secular society that does not give privilege to one belief group over another.

I’m a #HumanistBecause the responsibility to look after the planet lies solely with humanity. I don’t believe there are supernatural forces shaping our fate. The onus is on us. Humanity alone must solve its problems.

Humanists make sense of the world through logic, reason, and evidence, and always seek to treat those around us with warmth, understanding, and respect.
For many people, the term ‘humanist’ is simply a positive way of describing the values that they already have. It conveys a set of principles that humanists have in common, including attitudes towards science, democracy, equality, human rights, individual freedom, morality and ethics, society, and so much more.
In the UK, it’s estimated that roughly five million non-religious people already identify as humanists, and that 24 million non-religious people have humanist beliefs and values.
#HumanistBecause explores these views by highlighting how humanists approach life, why people choose to call themselves humanists, and how these views have a positive impact on the lives of humanists today.
