Requests from Oxfam and One.org – please sign petitions on global hunger

8 August, 2012

Take your pick or sign both – Oxfam’s petition is at http://www.oxfam.org.uk/get-involved/campaign-with-us/find-an-action/sahel-hunger-summit?intcmp=hp_60_hych2_hunger-summit_2012-08-07; One.org’s message below:

“Almost a billion people will go to bed hungry or malnourished tonight – a seventh of the world’s population. We need world leaders to go for gold and break the vicious cycle of hunger and poverty.

As the Olympics come to an end on Sunday, British Prime Minister David Cameron will be hosting a key gathering of world leaders to tackle global hunger and malnutrition. And you could make a real difference to the outcome.

Click here to automatically add your name to our petition asking David Cameron to take action, securing millions of kids a better start in life.

The petition reads:

Dear Prime Minister David Cameron,
I urge you to work with other leaders to save millions of kids from chronic malnutrition by the time of the next Olympics in 2016, as a first step in achieving the World Health Organisation’s long-term nutrition goals.

Without nutritious food, athletes couldn’t compete at the Olympics. But many of the world’s poorest children simply don’t get the nutrients they need to grow and develop, and won’t have the chance to fulfil their potential.

With the world’s eyes on London, and a food crisis in the Sahel, the British Prime Minister has a unique opportunity to go further in the race against hunger. Let’s make sure he hears us.

Thanks for your support,

PS. Every single voice will help urge David Cameron to act this weekend when he meets other world leaders. Please join me in signing the petition.”
