In the week of its 60th weekly episode, the Pod Delusion has partnered with the British Humanist Association.
Begun in September last year, the Pod Delusion is a weekly news-magazine podcast about “interesting things” – from politics, to science, culture, and religion, all from a broadly humanist, secular, and evidence-based perspective.
Creator and producer of The Pod Delusion, BHA member James O’Malley, said, ‘I started the Pod Delusion because I wanted to make a podcast about things that I’m interested in, and many of those things are connected with the humanist worldview. It’s humanist to care about current events, to ask big questions, to want to know how the world works, but also to think critically about what other people are saying. Our contributors and interviews do all that. And it’s fun. It’s like Blue Peter but with more swearing.’
In its 60th episode The Pod Delusion discussed issues such as the British monarchy, being a pirate, whether McDonalds should have a say in health policy, and interviewed Armando Iannucci and Simon Blackwell, creators of The Thick of It. Previous interviewees include Richard Dawkins, Brian Cox and Evan Harris, comedians Ed Byrne, Robin Ince, Tony Hawks and Dave Gorman, science writers Simon Singh and Ben Goldacre, and skeptics DJ Grothe and James Randi.
BHA Chief Executive Andrew Copson said, ‘We think it’s important that messages from humanist perspectives are available in all media. The Pod Delusion is a particularly creative example of humanists getting together online to talk about issues big and small, and will stand alongside our popular YouTube channel, community blog and social networking sites.
‘The Pod Delusion doesn’t shy away from controversy. It’s a great format in which independent contributors from the humanist, secular and skeptical world can think outside the box about current events and the perennial questions of Humanism.’
