Rest, resistance, and radicalism: humanist history in Cornwall

Join us to discover a rich history of humanism in Cornwall, home to radical freethinkers and humanist luminaries for centuries. From Newlyn-born chartist William Lovett, through the St. Ives holidays of a young Virginia Woolf, to the formation of the Falmouth Humanist Group and beyond, hear the unsung story of Cornwall’s humanists – and how the county shaped them.

Our speaker:

Maddy Goodall is the Humanist Heritage Manager at Humanists UK. Her work involves uncovering and sharing the rich history of humanism in the UK – a story of people, groups, objects, places, movements, publications, and ideas.

We will have a bring and share meal at the end, so feel free to bring something along. Please make sure it is labelled with any allergens.

We would like as many people to attend in person as possible, but for those who cannot, due to distance or mobility, we will be broadcasting the meeting via Zoom. Joining instructions will be shared prior to the event, so those who wish to can join online.
