Senior Geologist Kirstin Lemon will lead us through the beautiful Colin Glen Forest and explain the fascinating geology along the river course. We may even find a few fossils!

The walk through Colin Glen Forest Park will be led by Senior Geologist Kirstin Lemon. One of Kirstin’s responsibilities is to increase understanding of the geology of NI among the general public. Colin Glen has a lot of geological interest as well as being full of sights and sounds. This beautiful woodland haven takes you on a walk through geological time. As we walk upstream alongside the Colin River we will pass the entire range of rocks that make up the Belfast Hills from the Triassic to the Palaeogene.

We will meet at the Visitor's Centre (just inside the Colin Glen River Entrance). The walk is suitable for those with a moderate level of fitness and families with older children would be very welcome. We will be using public paths but please wear appropriate clothing for an outdoor walk, including a raincoat and waterproof footwear as it can be muddy in places. The walk is around 4.5 km and will take around 2.5-3 hours.
