In England SACRE stands for ‘Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education’. In Wales the SAC is the ‘Standing Advisory Council on Religion, Values and Ethics’. Every local authority in England and Wales has one of these committees. Their members advise on what school pupils should study in religious education lessons. But all too often, there is no-one in these groups to represent a humanist viewpoint, and consequently many young people never have the opportunity to learn about humanism.
You can make a difference here! If you’re willing to join your local SACRE/SAC you’ll be helping to ensure our young people are not prevented from learning that there are alternatives to organised religion as a way of living your life.
Does your local authority have a humanist representative on its SACRE/SAC? Check below to find out, and if it doesn’t why not consider becoming one?
If we are looking for a SACRE/SAC rep in your area (or in an area nearby), and you would like to volunteer, then please get in touch with us via sacres@humanism.org.uk. Please contact us before contacting the SACRE/SAC as sometimes places will have been filled recently though our map might not have been updated yet.

If you are a SACRE/SAC rep and we’ve not identified that on the map, please get in touch via sacres@humanism.org.uk.
