Ask your MP to attend APPHG meeting on humanist marriages

Ask your MP to attend a parliamentary meeting on the legal recognition of humanist marriages in England and Wales, taking place on 1 March

As you may know, humanist weddings are legally recognised in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, and the Channel Islands. Parliament voted in 2013 to pave the way for them in England and Wales, but all these years on, Government inaction means humanist couples can still not have a legally recognised ceremony that best represents their beliefs.

It’s vital that we get as many MPs to attend to create a bigger impact and ensure freedom of choice for all. This is true no matter where your MP is based around the UK.

All you need to do is put your postcode into the search box to the right, and it will automatically find your MP and bring up a template letter we have prepared for you to send. We’ve suggested some text you can use, but please, if you are able, do edit it to make it more personal – we know that MPs are more likely to take notice of personalised emails and queries, which are infinitely more powerful than standard emails. For example, if your MP is in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can ask them to attend to highlight the success of humanist marriages since they have been legally recognised there in 2005 and 2018 respectively. If you are in Wales, you can highlight that the Welsh Government is actively calling on the UK Government to legally recognise humanist marriages.

Thank you for your support.
