Actor Nick Frost appointed Humanists UK patron

Humanists UK is delighted to announce its newest patron is actor Nick Frost. Frost is one of the most well-regarded contemporary comic actors in the UK and joins a stable of over 170 Humanists UK patrons with distinguished careers in arts, literature, science, academia, politics, and community and civic activism.

Nick Frost is probably best known to UK audiences for his starring roles in the ‘Cornetto Trilogy’ of films: Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End, in which he starred alongside his frequent collaborator and best friend, Simon Pegg. The pair also co-wrote and starred in the 2011 sci-fi comedy Paul.

After leaving school at 15, and after two years living at a kibbutz in Israel, Nick’s big break came when he was cast in the critically acclaimed cult comedy sitcom Spaced. He has since gone on to appear in nearly 50 feature films and TV programmes. His memoir, Truths, Half Truths & Little White Lies, detailing his life up to age 30, was released in 2015.

Humanists UK Chief Executive Andrew Copson commented, ‘Nick is an actor of tremendous ability and comic timing, and we are delighted to welcome him to the fold as our newest patron.

‘Our patrons are talented individuals who have, in one way or another, made real contributions to the cultural, intellectual, or scientific progress of our species, just as humanists have done throughout history. Whether it’s by helping raise awareness of our campaigning work or by assisting us to promote public understanding of humanism, our patrons lend us the visibility and impact we need to achieve our aim of a secular state ensuring human rights and equality for all.’

At Humanists UK, we want a tolerant world where rational thinking and kindness prevail. Our work helps people be happier and more fulfilled, and by bringing non-religious people together we help them develop their own views and an understanding of the world around them.

Humanists UK has over 170 patrons who support its work in various ways through their expertise and prominence in various fields. Existing patrons include significant figures from the spheres of science, philosophy, human rights activism, politics, the arts, and broadcasting. The President of Humanists UK is the writer and comedian Shappi Khorsandi, who is supported by Vice Presidents Professor Jim Al-Khalili, Professor A C Grayling, and Polly Toynbee.
