Updates and actions from Stop Climate Chaos Coalition meeting on 10/11/11

11 November, 2011

UN Climate Talks in Durban, South Africa – during the talks many UK grassroots groups be holding events between 26 November and 3 December. Find out what’s going on near you at http://www.stopclimatechaos.org/african-climate-connection , join in, and show MPs that voters are still concerned about climate change! More news and actions at http://www.stopclimatechaos.org/, including a live web-debate with UK Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Chris Huhne MP at 7.00pm on December 3rd, so please join the debate then. And do write to your MPs about the Durban Climate Talks and the importance of UK action and leadership on climate change, otherwise they will continue to think that this is a low priority for the British public.

Lots of petitions on lots of climate / energy themes at http://www.foe.co.uk/get_involved/campaign_actions_index.html – you’re sure to find at least one that you could sign!

There is a petition to the Government on the recently announced 50% cut to the Feed In Tariffs (FITs) for domestic PV panel installations at http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/20912. While a small cut might be justified (the price of panels has gone down and their efficiency has improved) a, cut of this size will deter many from investing in PV, including the firms that were offering free PV panels in return for the FIT – and will make life very difficult for a new industry that could help the UK to meet its carbon targets and provide many green jobs.

And last but not least, the Day of Action on Climate Change on December 3rd – and H4BW, with banner and humanist leaflets, aim to be at the Stand up for Climate Justice March and Rally in London, which will assemble at 12.00 noon. More details later on the CCC website and here, but do please put the date in your diary and try to join us for at least some of the march.
