Humanists against climate chaos

21 January, 2011

The British Humanist Association (BHA) is pleased to announce that it recently joined many other organisations – large and small, national and local, religious, secular and environmental – in the Stop Climate Chaos coalition, and Marilyn Mason went along to represent the BHA at an All Coalition Meeting in mid-January. Representatives were updated on UK climate politics in the light of the Energy Bill currently going through Parliament, the outcomes of Copenhagen and Cancun, and SCC plans for 2011, which will focus on ensuring a safe climate, green jobs and warm homes (by which they mean well insulated, efficiently heated homes). Coming up in the immediate future will be requests to lobby MPs to make sure the Energy Bill and the Green Deal are as robust and effective as possible – with SCC providing background information which the BHA will pass on to interested members.

The BHA hope to announce soon a new humanist interest group, aimed at providing a focus and support for humanists particularly interested in taking action on world problems such as  international justice, peace and the environment. Watch this space.

Notes

The British Humanist Association (BHA) is the national charity representing and supporting the non-religious and campaigning for an end to religious privilege and discrimination. It is the largest organisation in the UK campaigning for a secular state.
