BHA responds to funder’s equality consultation

25 September, 2009

The British Humanist Association (BHA) has today responded to the consultation on Capacitybuilders’ Single Equality Scheme. Capacitybuilders is a non-departmental public body which aims to improve the support available to the third sector by providing funding and information to organisations.

The consultation was run by the National Equality Partnership on behalf of Capacitybuilders and examines the organisation’s plans to increase equality and diversity good practice both within their workforce and with their external stakeholders.

Pepper Harow, Campaigns Officer, commented, “The fact that Capacitybuilders is consulting in the area of equality and diversity shows their commitment to these important issues. Asking equality groups who represent those who may be affected by the scheme, demonstrates recognition of the importance of hearing all voices when forming such important policies.”

“The BHA was generally supportive of the plans but had concerns that some of the measures may inadvertently cause discrimination against non-religious people and groups. By allowing us to express our concerns at this early stage in the development of the policy, Capacitybuilders can benefit from our knowledge in this area and improve the scheme to be helpful for everyone.”
