BHA gears up for Humanist Week 2009

12 June, 2009

The BHA is organising a week of activity to celebrate Humanist Week. World Humanist Day is celebrated annually by humanist organisations around the world on 21 June. In 2009, the BHA is encouraging Humanists to celebrate this important event by doing something in the days surrounding the day – ie ‘Humanist Week’ (20th – 28th June).

The BHA has designed special materials with information about Humanism, the BHA, ceremonies, the history of Humanism and facts and figures about non-religious people which will be displayed in libraries around the country.

Pepper Harow, Local Campaigns Officer, explained, “The aims of Humanist Week are to increase awareness of Humanism, provide information about Humanism and celebrate Humanism and humanists. The rich history of free thought and ethical philosophy with Humanist connections should be celebrated.”

She continued, “Libraries are wonderful resources for learning and this week gives people an opportunity to find out more about Humanism in their local community.”
