Welcoming children into the world is a magical thing. Celebrating their arrival in an inclusive, non-religious Naming ceremony can be a heart-warming occasion for all present to mark the children's place in their family and community. It can be a time to witness promises about how they will be cared for, from those most closely involved, how they might support the child throughout their life, and hopes for the future, ..
Short and sweet and to the point is usually best, not least because there are often other children present who can get restless! They might like to be involved in some way, telling of the first time they met their new brother/sister /cousin / friend, can be very moving, as can reading a poem, or singing a song for the new child.Very often all present like to be part of a communal promise always to care and support the newcomer.
Namings can be Inside or outside (with a plan B!) I have conducted Namings mainly in he South East in places like Eridge Vllage Hall, Horsted Place Hotel, the garden of a venue, Salomon's, the parent's back garden: anywhere that can hold (just!) the number invited, (including if it rains!") has access to a loo, and reasonable parking.
