Hi, I'm Leigh

Hello and congratulations! You've just had a baby and you're entering a whole new stage of your life. Buckle up.

With over 20 years as a humanist naming celebrant, I will work with you to craft a naming ceremony that celebrates your new family and child(ren), looks to their future and ensures that they know they are loved and protected.

I've worked with a wide range of families and celebrated a whole host of children. I've conducted ceremonies for new-borns, twins, older children, blended families, sibling groups, adopted children and children in foster care. Each of these ceremonies has celebrated the young person at the heart of it, honouring their lives and character and looking forward to their future and all they might achieve.

As a Humanists UK trainer, I help to keep the standard for humanist naming ceremonies as high as possible so you can be assured that you're in very safe hands as we put together the perfect celebration.

As a professional writer and broadcaster, I can confidently promise you that your ceremony will be well-crafted, delivered with verve, and include poetry and prose that is just right for you.

I'm also here if you need help writing your promises (or the godparents' promises) to your child(ren) so that you say everything you want to say to/about those you love the most, on this most special of days.

From our first meeting to being there on the naming day itself, I will make sure it really is a ceremony to remember and that, should your child(ren) ever read their naming ceremony script in the future, they will know for certain how much they were cherished.

We began planning our naming ceremony with Leigh in 2020 and she helped us to plan a beautiful ceremony for our little boy that included family members reading and stories we wished to share. Covid disrupted the plans and Leigh patiently allowed us to cancel, reschedule and cancel, as family from abroad were unable to join us. Finally, in Summer 2022 we held our naming ceremony. Leigh delivered the ceremony beautifully with a balance of professionalism and warmth. Thank you.

Thank you for leading Chuku's naming day celebration. As with Soulla before, we have been lucky enough to have you by our side personal and professional, a memorable occasion. We have been recommending you to friends and family.

Thank you for the beautiful ceremony you held for Iris's naming day. We really appreciated the care you took to understand and communicate our values in the whole process, and the way in which you involved Iris's godparents and our family and friends on the day itself. It felt really special and we will always treasure the memories of that day.

We all pay a monthly fee to Humanists UK to further support the work of the charity, and are part of a regional network for like-minded celebrants for support and learning.

Humanist naming ceremonies

A humanist naming ceremony is a joyous event, and the perfect opportunity to gather friends and family to welcome your child into the world, with no reference to religion. It focuses on the child, their future and the circle of love and support around them, offering a sincere and personal alternative to a christening or other religious ceremony.
